The RAV4’s base engine is slightly more powerful than the CX-5. However, Mazda offers a more powerful turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces up to 250 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque. This gives the CX-5 a massive lead over the RAV4 in terms of performance.
Mazda is renowned for its elegantly designed interiors and the CX-5 is no exception. Materials used in the cabin are of top-notch quality and the fit-and-finish can be rivaled to only luxury automotive manufacturers. The base CX-5 is equipped with cloth-trimmed seats as standard. Higher trims get synthetic or genuine leather upholstery along with power-adjustable, heated, and ventilated front seats. Optional features like a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, and rear center armrest are also offered. The RAV4 sure does come with a few more standard features like the power-adjustable front seats that are offered as standard even on the base trim. But its main drawback is the low fit-and-finish quality that works against it. Not to forget, its cramped front seats which are in no way close to the comfortable ones offered in the CX-5.
All CX-5 trims come with a 10.25-inch touchscreen display as standard. Features like Wi-Fi Hotspot, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Mazda Connected Services, a four-speaker sound system, Bluetooth connectivity, two USB ports, and HD Radio are offered as standard. Optional features like dual-zone automatic climate control, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster, two rear USB ports, satellite radio, navigation system, a six- or 10-speaker Bose premium sound system, ambient interior lighting, and moonroof are also available. The RAV4’s seven-inch infotainment system is not up to match in this regard.
