PERFORMANCE
MAZDA CX-50

If you’ve been dreaming of feeling the power thrum beneath your feet, then it’s time to find the SUV that can fulfill that dream. Luckily, both the Mazda CX-50 and the Subaru Outback offer impressive powertrains.

2 Engine Options

When it comes to the 2023 Mazda CX-50, you’ll have two potent options:

  • SKYACTIV®-G 2.5L 4-cylinder engine: 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque
  • SKYACTIV®-G 2.5L with Twin-scroll Turbo engine: up to 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque

The Subaru Outback also has two available engines. The Subaru offers a standard 2.5L engine or an available 2.4L engine with a turbocharger.

How Does the Performance Measure Up?

With more than 300 lb-ft of torque, the Mazda CX-50 will easily tow your belongings. The standard engine of the Subaru, however, delivers just 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque, lagging behind the standard Mazda engine.

Even with the turbocharger, the Subaru Outback only achieves an output of 277 lb-ft of torque, which is far less than the 320 lb-ft of torque the Mazda produces.

Plus, the Mazda CX-50 has more technology devoted to on-road traction and stability than what you’d get from the Outback. This is exemplified by Mazda intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive), which offers:

  • Normal Mode
  • Sport Mode
  • Off-Road Mode
  • Available Towing Mode

All these modes will help your vehicle maintain traction.

TECHNOLOGY
MAZDA CX-50

Of course, performance isn’t all you dream about. There are plenty of fun technology features to enjoy when you step inside either SUV. After all, both models are equipped with high-resolution touchscreen multimedia systems.

Infotainment to Spruce up Your Drive

The Outback uses STARLINK®, while the Mazda CX-50 has Mazda Connect™. These systems will help you connect your phone, see directions, and more.

Both SUVs come with impressive infotainment systems. However, the Mazda CX-50 comes with a bigger 8.8-inch display screen, while the Outback’s standard screen is just seven inches.

Turn up the Music

In addition, you’ll have twice as many speakers on the base trim of the Mazda CX-50, which comes with an 8-speaker audio system. The Outback, as you may have guessed, only comes with four speakers on the base trim.

When it comes to connecting your devices, both SUVs come with:

  • Apple CarPlayâ„¢
  • Android Autoâ„¢
  • Bluetooth®

These integrations will make it easy to play your favorite songs and use other apps in both vehicles.

INTERIOR
MAZDA CX-50

SUVs like the Mazda CX-50 and the Subaru Outback are known for their spacious cabins. When you enter both models, you’ll find a variety of features that turn driving into a more comfortable and convenient experience.

Clean Cabin Air

Wondering how comfortable these models can get? Both SUVs offer available dual-zone automatic climate control, providing you with the perfect temperature no matter what the weather.

However, only the Mazda comes with a pollen filter. This will make it the better choice if you have allergies.

Convenience and Comfort

However, these aren’t the only features you can count on. Other features you’ll find available on both models include:

  • Leather-trimmed options
  • Heated front seats
  • Ventilated front seats

Both the Outback and the Mazda CX-50 can be outfitted with a power-adjustable driver's seat with power lumbar support, but only the Mazda CX-50 has 2-position memory available on six different trims. While the Outback has this feature, it’s only available on the top two trims.
